I'm fundraising for...
Wednesday 19th Feb Cancer of the bile duct system (known as cholangiocarcinoma) is a rare cancer. This is a cruel disease which presents late and has often spread throughout the body (metastasised) by the time it is diagnosed. At this stage it is rapidly fatal. Those affected by cholangiocarcinoma currently have very limited treatment options, poor prognosis and limited support networks. Intensive research into common cancers has translated into effective detection and treatment, which have drastically changed the prognosis and landscape of many cancers previously seen as death sentences. Well established support groups have helped patients and their loved ones through the stress of diagnosis, treatment and surveillance. With your assistance, we are hoping to help contribute to this same revolution for the rarer cancers, such as cholangiocarcinoma. In September 2020, our wonderful Frances was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma. She faced her illness with grace, humour and courage before her passing in July 2021.
