Memorial for Rob

Tuesday 16th Dec
Four and a half years ago Rob was diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma and had many ups and downs while having treatment.  He always had an optimistic outlook and wasn't going to let cancer get the better of him.  He was told initially that he had 3 months to live if he didn't have treatment, so went on to have immunotherapy for 4 years.  Unfortunately he became allergic to the immunotherapy and over Christmas 2024 was having no treatment.  Than early in 2025 he was in and out of hospital for different reasons and eventually started Chemotherapy. After the first treatment he contacted an infection. Because his white blood cells couldn't fight the infection it bought him down quickly within 1 week.  He ended up on life support and passed away with the next 4 days.  Rob was stoic throughout and more concerned with others than himself.  At the end he passed away peacefully on 22 May 2025 with myself and his niece holding his hands.  He also received the Last Rites.  The doctors, nurses and medical staff at The Calvary Mater Hospital in Newcastle were very thoughtful and caring, they looked after Rob to the best of their ability.  Unfortunately medicine can only do so much. I am putting this page up as a memorial because I think he would have liked the fact that it may help somebody else along their journey. If you seek treatment early as possible than you have a better chance of survival. We love you Rob and will miss you forever.
