Wednesday 19th Feb Hi, My name is Rosina Hogben, and I am raising money for Rare Cancers Australia as my family has recently been effected by a rare cancer diagnosis, and I see the great importance of the support and service Rare Cancers Australia provides to patients and their families. All funds raised will help their mission of improving awareness, support and treatment of all Australians with rare and less common cancers. My story: In December 2016, there was a day all of our lives changed and the worst news was given, Jed my 33 year old brother had a rare and incurable cancer, cholangiocarcinoma. Since then a lot has changed, this is the first time we have been affected by cancer and it took a while for us all to process it, but we have all stayed together and helped each other as much as possible, with endless love. My parents relocated from Port Lincoln to Geraldton to care for Jed full time as this cancer is aggressive and takes all quality of life away. Myself and my sister travelled back and forth and searched high and low for second opinions but were unsuccessful as we were very limited with time. With my deepest regret, my amazingly strong brother passed after only 9 fighting months. To say this past year was challenging is an understatement, especially for Jed who refused to give up hope until his last minutes. He has left behind two beautiful children that we cherish, as he will live on in them. We are really pulling together, and I hope by fundraising for Rare Cancers Australia, we’ll be able to do something worthwhile and raise awareness for the horrible rare cancers that most oncologists and families had never dealt with.
