Blaze’s Fundraising Page
Blaze Scarlett Broadway is 30 years old
and has been fighting a rare and aggressive brain cancer, oligodendroglioma,
for many years.
She has undergone multiple brain surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, and
ongoing medical management to try to control the tumour and give her the best
chance at life.
Recently, Blaze’s cancer began progressing again. Her specialist recommended a targeted medication that can help stabilise the tumour and slow further progression. Unfortunately, this treatment is not currently available on the PBS, despite being expected for approval months ago. Because of that, the only way to access the medication is to pay privately at a cost of $27,800 per cycle.
So far, we have paid for two rounds completely ourselves — $55,600 out of pocket — and another round is due very soon. There is no confirmed end date for when PBS approval will be granted, meaning Blaze’s treatment is ongoing and unpredictable.
Despite everything she has been through,
Blaze remains incredibly creative, determined, and inspiring.
She loves playing PS5 and PC games, and I gave her a Nintendo Switch for
Christmas. She writes books, creates amazing artwork, reads constantly, draws,
colours, makes candles, and sings. Creativity has always been her outlet, and
she continues to express herself through it every day.
In September 2025, Blaze achieved her 5th degree black belt, a huge accomplishment made even more remarkable by the fact that she managed this while battling her illness. Staying fit, healthy, and active has become a major priority for both of us as we do everything we can to support her physically, mentally, and emotionally during this time.
Blaze depends on this medication to maintain stability and quality of life. Without it, the tumour will continue to progress.
I (Rob) have cared for Blaze for 15 years and adopted her as my daughter. I have drawn on my own superannuation to try to keep up with the cost of treatment, but this is becoming unsustainable.
We are setting up this fundraising page to help cover the cost of Blaze’s next round of medication, and to give her a fighting chance while we wait for PBS access.
Every donation — no matter the size — directly pays for Blaze’s treatment through Rare Cancers Australia, and helps keep her stable while we continue this fight.
Thank you so much for your support, kindness, and help during this incredibly difficult time.
